1661. Love and Security versus commodities

What people want is some security with affection, a feeling of well-being and openness to the world of experience. What  economics  offers is an ensemble of things ,commodities, stuff.

The function of advertising  is to convince people that the second is the first. The function of art is to recall people to the first and  teach them to be cautious about the second .

Philosophy, which ought to be central to this struggle, is largely absent.
